MediaDroid

MediaDroid is no longer available on the Android Market due to my lack of resources to maintain and improve the application. Since I don’t feel comfortable with a product I’m unable to maintain, I felt it necessary to remove it from the market. Thanks for your interest.
First of all I’d like to say, thanks so much for your interest in MediaDroid, whether you’ve installed MediaDroid or the MediaDroid trial, or you’re just checking in to see what it’s about…thanks for taking the time to check out my latest software endeavor.
Secondly, I’d love to hear from you, drop me an email at

What you think of MediaDroid (good and bad), what it’s missing (a bunch of stuff still in development), and if you’d like news about upcoming features and releases (I’ll assume you DON’T want to get emails unless you specifically state you want them, your privacy is my utmost concern). I’m also looking for volunteers to help work out kinks in future releases. If you are interested in helping out, please let me know, you may have to put up with a bug or two and provide feedback, but it’d definitely help me out to have some outside opinions.

MediaDroid is an Android application and home screen Widget. MediaDroid allows you to create albums of photos and display them within a widget on your Android home screen. A management screen is displayed when the widget is tapped.

This “Manage Album” screen allows you to create new albums, remove photos in an album or choose the photo to be displayed on the home screen. The Manage Album menu also has an item to launch the “Manage Photos” screen displaying an image gallery of all the recognized images on the SDCard. Check boxes next to each image allows you to select or deselect the images in the current album.

Upcoming Features (as time permits):
- Landscape or Portrait widgets
- Better photo management (filtering and sorting in image gallery)
- Automatically rotate the pictures in the selected album
- Lots of other ideas in the pipe…just gotta’ find time to code them up
Known Bugs:
- Pressing the “Home” button from the Manage Albums screen disables the home screen widget. This doesn’t always happen, but most of the time, the Manage Albums screen won’t come reappear. The workaround is to press the Android “Menu” button or long-press on the home screen widget. If the long-press method is used, the Manage Albums screen and Image Details screen appears, simply use the “Back” button to close the Image Details screen. A fix for this bug is a high priority for the next release.
- Not all the images on the SDCard are available in the image gallery. Not sure how to fix this one yet…I have found that if I download images to the device and don’t open up the Gallery application supplied by Google, the images don’t show up right away in MediaDroid. I believe it has something to do with how often the SDCard is scanned. And I don’t believe all image formats are recognized either, it seems that images with bmp extensions are recognized. I’m researching this more.
