Message Drop

New Features for 1.1.0

1. Define a Blank Tag: This item in the Settings allows you to choose one of the tags from your Tag List as the Blank Tag, for example, none.  When none is chosen as the tag, no tag is added to the subject line of your note.

2. Item List: Item List mode cuts down the number of clicks it takes to build a bulleted list.  To turn on item list mode, select the menu item, and every time you press the enter/return key a bullet will be added to mark a list item.  You can specify which character to use to mark each list item in the Settings.

The Message Drop Android application is a re-branding of Note To Me along with the new feature of being a standalone message client.  This means Message Drop doesn’t use the default Android email client to send messages, making message delivery much faster and easier.  I apologize to those that have already purchased Note To Me, if you send me an email with your home address I’ll be more then happy to refund your purchase of Note To Me.

Message Drop is an application which allows you to easily send an email to a preset email address.  The problem Message Drop attempts to solve is the number of clicks it takes to send an email to yourself.  I use my Gmail account to collect my ideas and tasks, but I don’t want to spend a lot of time opening the Gmail client, entering my address, adding a subject then finally getting to the actual message.

Information Security Note:

Message Drop requires that the Email address is preset and a SMTP Server along with Username and Password are supplied.  This personal information is used ONLY to send your messages.  It stays on your mobile device and isn’t used for ANYTHING else or accessed by any other application.  The protection of your personal information is very important to me.  The screen that first comes up when Message Drop is first started re-iterates the security of your information.

The settings screen allows you enter the Username, Password, SMTP Server and Email To values used by the application.  If you are using the default, smtp.gmail.com, SMTP Server, then the Username and Password are those you use as your Google Username and Password.  These settings allow the messages to be sent through your Google gmail account.

Once the connection information is supplied, all you need to enter is the message itself.  The first 25 characters of the message are put into the subject line of your email, along with the chosen tag.

Tags are managed from the Manage Tags menu.

From the screens menu, tags can be added, and by long pressing on any tag, that tag can be removed, or set as the default tag which is automatically added to the subject line of the message if no other tag is selected.

Finally, the Message List screen shows the list of sending or sent messages.  There’s also a menu item on this screen to delete all messages.  Another way of managing the list of messages is to turn on the “Delete sent messages” flag in the Settings.

More features to come and that ever elusive polish factor. As always, thank you for your support whether it’s purchasing the pay-for-version, rating or adding a comment on the Android Market, or comments via email. It’s always great to hear what is and is not working.

Cheers,
